American River Music Festival

September 22, 2009

It was a mix of terrific folk and blues music, family fun, river rafting, riverfront guided hikes, 3 beautiful riverfront campgrounds to park your RV or tent...with evening music on a small venue, workshops, jams, open mic night, live art, food and beverages...and more.  We were gathered on the banks of the South Fork of the American River in Coloma....gold country... for the 3rd annual American River Music Festival.

The weather was hot...close to triple digits....the water was cold....as usual.  My long-time friend, Doreen and I left early on a Friday and returned late on a Sunday.  We left totally spent and inspired from the ambience of the entire weekend.

We parked Phoebe McGee within yards of the river and from where Doreen is standing in the cold river...eating lunch....

Doreen keeping as cool as possible by drinking lots of water and spraying lots of water on her all day.

This live artist worked, creating art, dancing, singing along with the bands both days (break-less) as far as I could tell.
Pat, doing the same thing as Doreen...keeping as cool as possible.

Festival goers dancing on the side and  viewing the art.
This is Brandy, part of a very talented duo called "Twilight Hotel".  They have just moved to Austin and will do well with their smartly crafted songs.  Brandy and Dave are from Winnepeg and have already  landed a Juno nomination for roots and traditional album of the year.  TwilightHotel.CA.com

Singer and songwriter, Jimmy LaFave, from Texas & Oklahoma began his career as a boy....check him out at:  JimmyLaFave.com
We shared the big shady tent with our new friends, Peggy & her husband (forgot his name).  They were so much fun.
